Top Summer Activities for Families

PUBLISHED: Thursday, June 2, 2022 by Emilee Howell

School's out, and it's time to enjoy ourselves and stop thinking about homework, classrooms, and teachers. What better way to celebrate the summer than to try different summer activities with your family?!

Don't take our word for it; continue reading our list and find out some of the best activities to try out over the summer.

Take a Bike Ride

A bike ride may not be the most enjoyable outing during the winter, but now is the best time to do it. Depending on the area you live in, there may be several bike routes you can ride that will provide a variety of scenic views for your family to enjoy.

If you don't want your child to spend all their time in front of the television, a bike ride is a perfect way to motivate them to go outside and get some fresh air. Besides, it allows you all to spend time together!

Camp in the Backyard

Have you always wanted to go camping, but you don't necessarily want to go too far from home? If so, camping in your backyard is the best way to gain the experience without going anywhere.

Go to your local sports store and ensure you buy some:

  • Tents

  • Sleeping bags

  • Wireless nightlights

And whatever you do, ensure you don't forget to buy the marshmallows you're going to use to make s’mores. We understand s'mores are made around a campfire, but if you don’t want to start a fire, you can always use the stove or oven inside your house to accomplish this.

Of course, you can always do things the old-fashioned way and DIY the s'more's making.

Try Out Some Science Experiments

If the great outdoors isn't your thing, we've got some activities you can do inside. Science experiments are the best way to make the most of your time indoors.

There are several types of experiments you can try depending on your child's interests. Just make sure you wear the right gear when performing the experiments because the last thing you want is to cause an acidic reaction.

Arts & Crafts

Arts and crafts are always a great idea, and they're something you and your family can do together no matter the time of the day. Another thing when it comes to arts and crafts, you don't have to go to the store to collect supplies yet.

Take a bit of time to search your home for items you can use in your craft, and then start coming up with ideas for your crafting sessions. Let your kids play along, too, and ask them what ideas they have.

If your child’s favorite arts and crafts is to spend time coloring, don't miss out on a chance to get some coloring pages by entering our Summer coloring contest. To enter, email a photo of their coloring pages to fanclub@gallopade.com or posting the photo on Instagram and tagging @gallopadebooks and using #bigdiggig.

Make the most of your time together this summer, and don't forget to try out one of the activities we've listed above. And keep checking our blog to find more valuable tips and tricks that you can use with your kids!

The Gallopade blog is here for you this summer – and every season.
