Soldier, rancher, and Texas revolutionary, Martín De León was the only Mexican empresario to colonize in Texas. After the Spanish government refused to give Martín a grant to colonize, he received one from the new Mexican government. He, with his family and other settlers, used this grant to build what would become Victoria, Texas.
