After the civil War Congress created several all Black regiments. These often untrained soldiers were sent to the Western frontier to protect the railroads and settlers from Indians. They were so brave the Indians called them "Buffalo Soldiers" out of respect! They became living legends. They even went on to fight in World War I and II!
