Presidents' Day is a federal holiday celebrated on the third Friday of February. There is much history observed during February; there's Susan B. Anthony's birthday, Presidents' Day, and of course, Black History Month. Share these lessons with your students to get the whole class involved in learning about the United States Leaders.
Presidents' Timeline: Have students research presidential moments in history. For example, Abraham Lincoln ordered the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.
Presidential Biography: Assign each student a president; after some research, invite them to share what they learned with the class by pretending to be that person. For example, "Hi class, I am George Washington! I was America's first president. I was born in Virginia and helped the United States become a nation after a long war with Britain. One fun fact about me is, I loved dogs! I died at the age of 67 in 1799." This activity will work great with virtual learning!
Presidential Pets: Figure out what kind of pets some U.S. Presidents had in the white house. Look up pictures of the animals and share them on screen.
Presidential Pretend: Ask your students a thought-provoking question, "If you were the president, what is one thing you would do right now?"
Presidential Comparison: Investigate two presidents as a class, then have students compare and contrast those two individuals' beliefs. What similarities did they share? What was different?
