Anson Jones played a big part in Texas history. He was a doctor, a soldier, and a politician. The son of a poor tanner, he trained to be a doctor as a young man. He joined the army and fought with Texas to win the war at the Battle of San Jacinto. After the war, he chose to serve the Republic of Texas in the Texas Congress. He later was elected President of the Republic of Texas.
Although simple, this reader has substance and really engages kids in the story. It is great for social studies, meeting state and national curriculum standards, individual and reading group programs, library programs, and other educational uses.
